FAQ

Can we meet virtually? Do you provide online counseling?

During the Coronavirus/COVID-19 epidemic, I am giving you the option of visiting online using a secure video service or meeting in person.

You are welcome to wear a mask in session if we meet in person, but it is not required.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is when you begin sharing your experience. We’ll complete an assessment of what you’re experiencing and discuss how therapy can help to facilitate change in your life.

We’ll discuss duty to warn, consent to treat, and complete paperwork to get you started.

How long do appointments last?
The appointments are 50 minutes. This is the standard length of a counseling session. If you’re interested in a more extended session (75 minutes), please contact me regarding availability and pricing.
How often will we meet?
Initially, we’ll meet once a week to establish the right consistency in therapy. Therapy isn’t any different from other endeavors; consistency is an essential piece of any change. Once you start seeing progress, we can discuss less frequent visits.
What can I expect from therapy?

Think of therapy as a collaborative journey upon which you and I are about to embark. We’ll explore and seek to gain insight and understanding into your personal experience. I’ll offer suggestions and a variety of skills that will help improve what you want to change.

We’ll work together to understand better your life’s influences that have led you to this point – and design a course of action that will get you to where you want to be.

How will I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Let’s meet! I offer ten-minute consultations to get an idea of what you are looking for as far as counseling.

The therapeutic relationship is the most important part of the process of therapy. Rapport and trust are essential to positive changes in therapy. The only way to know if we are a good fit is to meet and talk.

How much do you charge?
I charge $170 per 50-minute session. Payment will be collected at the time of service.
Do you accept insurance?

No, I do not accept any insurance. I will collect payment in full from you at the time of service. I do provide superbills that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. I do not have any say in how much your insurance company reimburses you.

It is also important to note that if you want to seek reimbursement from your insurance company, I will need to provide a diagnosis.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require 24 hours’ notice of cancellation. If you cancel within 24 hours of the appointment, you will be charged the full fee.

An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency. Remember, consistency is a vital part of therapy.

Who do you work with?

I provide psychotherapy and mental conditioning in Scottsdale, Arizona. I work with young adults and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, grief, career decisions, relational issues, life direction, and mental performance training.

I work with professionals, first responders, athletes, and anyone looking to improve their performance experience.

What theoretical approach do you use?

I use a variety of different approaches. I am mostly a cognitive behavioral therapist, but I integrate other therapy types if clinically indicated. I provide tangible skills that you can use in your daily life to improve your experience.

I am also a Lacanian Psychoanalyst, a type of depth psychology that delves into profound and personal questions about your influences and how your personality was formed.

Do you prescribe medication?
No, I’m not trained in the area of medication. I do believe remedy can be useful. If you feel you need to be evaluated for medication, I can provide a referral to a psychiatrist, or you can consult with your primary care doctor. If you are currently on medication, I can coordinate with your doctor.
Are there any issues or types of clients with whom you DO NOT work?
I only work with adults aged 18+ (no children). I don’t conduct child custody evaluations, nor do I provide custody recommendations. Arizona state licensing laws only allow me to provide therapy and counseling to individuals residing in the state. I do work with the LGBTQ community.
